This is an annual ride for us. Often, if the weather is good, more than once a year.
Been coming out here since around 2005 or so. But didn't have a web site or a decent
camera back then. The Bluebird saloon [re]opened in ~ 2006. Before that, the town was
just a whistle stop. Had lunch in Goldendale back then.

Entering the Ghost Community of Dot, Washington.
This deer looks like the only resident. This community
is about 10 miles South of Cleveland, right on Dot Road.

There are only two structures still standing here. The old
Dot church which later became the White Creek Grange and the
old Dot school.

The old schoolhouse that currently sits in the Whoop n Holler
Ranch and Museum at one time was close by this location.

Dot was a pioneer community established around the late 1890's in
Klickitat County WA located near Rock Creek Canyon.

Dot was listed as having a post office according to the Geological
Survey of 1913. Today the school house and grange hall remain at Dot.
The Dot grange hall was originally served as the Dot community church
and was built in 1889.

One of the first pastors of the church was William Douglas in 1904.
He was a circuit riding preacher, traveling from church to church
preaching. His son William O. Douglas became a Supreme Court Justice
serving from 1939 - 1975.

A history to Dot, Washington, written by Tami J. Whitmore:

The first postmaster was Charles Wherry’s brother-in-law, James Whitman Hardison.
His wife was Elizabeth Wherry. The Post Office was called Hardison, Washington
Territory and was in their two-story residence, which included a combination
store-trading post. It was located less than a mile from the old Dot Presbyterian
Church up White Creek draw, on the right hand side of the Roosevelt-Bickleton Road.
James and Elizabeth donated land for the church in 1875. At the turn of the century,
the Dot School had a roll call with the names of Barrett, Wherry, Hamilton, Binns,
Gadeberg, Knapp, Cooley and Glass.

In 1891, Clint Macy and his wife ran the Post Office and petitioned to have the name
changed to a more whimsical "Dot", after W. T. Dott who came to the area from The
Dalles in 1880. In 1910 Agnes Powers, daughter of Frank and Louise Powers, was
appointed Dot postmistress. She married Henry Runyon from Roosevelt and he drove
the stage and operated a blacksmith shop. Agnes remained postmistress until Dot
Post Office was phased out in 1922.
